Winsyslog service will not start

Postby JAppel on Tue Mar 09, 2004 9:57 pm

My client is trying to run Winsyslog 5.0.345 on Windows Server 2003. The server was upgraded from Windows 2000 about 2 months ago, and it appears that Winsyslog has not been functioning since.

When I arrived to look at the issue, the Adiscon Winsyslog service was stopped, and would not start. I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version, and the service started. When I rebooted the server after the install, none of the configured settings (from before the reboot) were available (no Rule sets or Running services). When I reconfigured them, the service would not start. Note: The service will start if I delete the Sylog server Running service.

WinSyslog is registered with the proper name and number.

I recieve the following messages in the Application log:

ERRORS:

Source: AdisconWinSyslog
Event: 114
Message: ERROR, your trial period is over. expired...

Source: AdisconWinSyslog
Event: 104
Message: The initialization process failed.

Source: AdisconWinSyslog
Event: 114
Message: No InfoSource service configured at all - the NT service runs but does not perform any useful work!

INFORMATION:

Source: AdisconWinSyslog
Event: 118
Message: WinSyslog Service is running in registered mode.

Thanks.

Hello,

There is one message logged in your event log that says "Your trial is over". It means that you havent entered your license details properly. Please check that you have entered the license details correctly. Please visit the following link too:

http://www.winsyslog.com/Common/en/FAQ/ ... ceInfo.asp

If after entering the license details correctly and as explained in the above FAQ link, still the problem persists then kindly go to the computer menu and click on Export Settings to Registry (NOT the binary one), zip it and send it to support@adiscon.com with the *same subject line*. We will review your settings and will let you know whats wrong. Also send us the debug log file. You can do this by clicking General Options and checking the checkbox that says "Enable Debug output in file". Set the debug level to Full, save the settings, let it run for some time. Zip that file and then send it along with the registry settings. I will be looking forward to your response.

Regards
Wajih

Hi,

if this also doesn't help, try the newer Build of WinSyslog (5.0.456) which can be downloaded here: http://www.adiscon.com/hotfixes/winsysl ... -02-02.zip

Thanks for the help, turned out to be out of date registration keys.
