We have a instance of Interactive Syslog Server on startup on some of our servers, and wanted to know how to have the logging automatically start when it opens.

At the moment we seem to have to click the Start button.

WinSyslog v 6.1 (licensed user).

Interactive Syslog Server is just for interactive viewing. If you need to receive messages continously, the WinSyslog service (the "real thing") needs to be used. It offers highly flexible options and starts at system startup. You configure it with the configuration client program.

Rainer, thanks for the reply.

In fact, we do have the WinSyslog NT service running automatically and have configured it, that is not the issue.

We also have the Interactive Syslog Server utility opening automatically (from a short cut in the All Users->Startup folder) and would like to have it showing the log hits immediately without having to click the Start button.

I hope this makes our request more clear, and hope you can help us with this.

We had handled this support request via our ticket system. For all other users asking the same question, here is the answer:

Simply change the short cut to start with the parameter /autolisten (InteractiveSyslogServer.exe /autolisten).


Note: "Interactive Syslog server is an add-on to the WinSyslog. Please note that it is a utility program, with a primary focus on real-time troubleshooting."

The WinSyslog Configuration Client should be used to configure the WinSyslog service for logging. The WinSyslog service runs as Windows NT service and starts automatically if Windows starts.
