Change user password with Admin login ?

Postby Matt Brown on Thu Sep 04, 2003 5:13 pm

Is it possible to change a users password by authenticating as an admin account ? I know I can do it directly on the server, but wanted to do it through web also.

Hi,

unfortunately not. Passwordmanager does only changes the password for a user if the old password is known.

The function to change the password for users over a administrative account is not implemented.

Dear Matt,

sorry, my collague was not 100% correct. With unauthenticated login, this is not possible. But if you set IIS to require authentication AND you log in with administrative rights, then you can change any user's passwords. Probably the best idea to implement this is to have a separate directory for the administrators which requires authentication. Also, we strongly suggest to https protect this path (and also the user path, but with the admin account it is even more advisable).

I am sorry for any confusion.

Best regards,
