Could Not Connect to the Mail Server

Even though, I gave the IP address of the Mail server correctly, the Simple mail Client gives a pop up saying "Could not connect to the mail server"
when I tried to send a test mail.
I am able to receive packets from the mail server when I ping it.

The port no is 25.

What might be the problem. Am I missing something here.

Please try to create a connection using telnet on port 25 to the mailserver. If this does not work, this is the problem.

You can do this by opening the command prompt and using this command:

telnet IPofyourmailserver 25
